YOUTH OFF THE STREET PROGRAM
The Youth Off The Street Program is designed for the youth ages 8 to 17. Our Counselors and Mentors are there to assist the youth with mentoring, tutoring, reading, social skills, economic issues, personal development as well as other services. The program also offers scholarships for academic and/or cultural activities and opportunity endeavors for the youth.
In addition the organization organizes movie nights, skating trips, BBQ's and other fun activities. The program arranges sport competitions that are managed by youth as part of positive peer culture practice.
The facility is open daily for youths ages 8 to 17. Counselors and Mentors are staffed at the facility Monday through Sunday (Click here for times of operations).
MENTORING
Mentoring will help shape the youth beliefs and values in a positive way; reduce impulsive, high-risk, and aggressive behaviors. The mentoring program will increase the youth social-emotional competence and other protective factors. Mentors meet with their mentees twice a month for facilitated group sessions that focus on trust, violence prevention, self-expression, workshops and fun one-on-one activities. The youth will also be provided with the support they need for a fulfilling and successful mentoring relationship with the Mentors.
TUTORING
Tutoring boosts academic achievement through one-on-one homework help, motivation skills, special focus on assistance in problem areas, helps build self-esteem, confidence. Tutoring is scheduled by appointments only. (Click here to email for more information on tutoring services)
THE ALSTARZ READING PROGRAM
The goal of this program is to assist reluctant or struggling readers to become confident and better readers.
The program include opportunities for:
Phonemic awareness
Phonics
Comprehension
Oral Spelling and Sounding of Words
Sight word vocabulary development
Connections between reading, writing, and oral communication
Good literature that encourages the youth to read material that's within their comfort range
GIRL TALK
Girl Talk group discussions is an open forum session on various topics that are age appropriate. Modeling and Dance will be made available for girls who participate in this group. Group sessions will be used to increase the girls social competence, risk assessment, decision-making, self-regulation, and positive goal setting. The lesson content varies by grade level and is organized into two skill-building units covering:
Empathy: teach young people to identify and understand their own emotions and those of others. We provide meaningful and positive educational and developmental life skills.
Impulse control and problem solving: help young girls choose positive goals; reduce impulsiveness; and evaluate consequences of their behavior in areas of safety, fairness, and impact on others.
Girl talk outcome

• Goal setting

YOUNG MALES UNITED
The Young Males United Group work to enhance internal strengths and resilience of youth in high-risk environments, to raise their awareness, and to prevent their involvement in substance use, gangs, violence and truancy. This program is designed to help youths become strong and healthy so they can make productive and positive contributions to society.
This is a 12-month community based program. Participation consists of attending a 2-hour group meeting once each month. Each participant will be assigned to a mentor whom will speak individually with them once a week.

Youth Off The Street Scholarships
The Scholarships are for at-risk youth 8 to 17 years of age and who are apart of the Youth Off the Street Program.
Amounts Available
Scholarships will range from $250 to $2,500 on a one-time basis for the youths to enjoy academic and/or cultural activities and opportunities.
Examples: College and high school tuition supplements; lessons, (including but not limited to), singing, theatre, musical instruments, computer, dance, art, and language.
IAATYF Fund will not cover funding for karate or other sports lessons nor church-affiliated or political party affiliated programs.
Qualifications of Candidates
1. Complete and submit an application to be considered
2..Each applicant must be between the ages of 8 to 17 years old.
3. Be part of a single-parent family with income less than 40,000.
4. Be actively matched with an IAATY Counselor/Mentor through the YOTS Program for at least one year.
5. Submit with the application, an estimate or letter from the supplier indicating the
academic/cultural activities to be pursued or the tuition supplement needed and cost.
6. Applicants must write a 250 word essay on the most influential person in their life.
7. Applicants must write a 150 word essay on what the IAATYF mean to them.
The first submission date is September 25, 2011 thru January 25 2012. Responses will be made within 30-45 days of receipt of the application.
